A Year in Reading: Ayobami Adebayo

covercoverDavid Miller’s That Glimpse of Truth was a constant companion this year. It is a collection of 100 stories that Miller believes are amongst the finest ever written. While there are a number of writers whose work I wish Miller had included, each story in this remarkable anthology has earned its place. From first move to checkmate, I found Paolo Maurensig’s sparse and intricate The Luneburg Variation disturbing and utterly engrossing. Tania Hershman’s My Mother was an Upright Piano was this year’s revelation. The cover calls this a collection of fictions but to my delight, many of the pieces in this book defy easy categorization as they can be read as prose or poetry.
