On both the “coming of age” and “affecting sex life” fronts: indirectly. I remember reading Charms for the Easy Life by Kaye Gibbons for the first time when I was in high school and thereafter finding myself extremely attracted to frontiersy Southern women who liked to read. I think that’s simply a matter of seeing either sexy or wanted-for-self characteristics very clearly in well written fiction.
